Digital Citizenship

By completing this digital citizenship assignment in ED 505, I was able to use the webpage we created to instill the importance of digital citizenship to my Kindergarten students. Although, they are unable to read the writing through the majority of the content provided on this webpage, they were able to gain insightful knowledge using the imbedded videos and pictures provided. There is a lot to learn through videos and pictures. Through my collaborative and individiualized lesson plans taught on syllables, my students were asked to create a product using Sock Puppets and MyStory. Both applications are web 2.0 applications that were both published to YouTube.

The digital citizenship webpage allowed students the opportunity to learn about using technology safely, responsibly, and legally. At this age group, we primarily talked about the importance of producing a product that was their own work. We used examples of how we would not want to post work from a classmate, parent, or something we found on the internet and put our name at the top of the page. Using the terms fair use and copyright guidelines was to advanced for this age group, but the protection policies was addressed at their learning level.

The second standard addressed was through the classroom technology rules link on the webpage located in the sidebar. This link provided students with approprite computer rules and iPad rules that support classroom management and effective student access. I read the rules allowed to the students through this webpage. We also watched The Top Ten Internet Safety Rules located under this section as well. As technology continues to be apart of our everyday teaching and learning, effective strategies and rules have to be implemented to ensure effective student access to technology available.

The third standard was addressed by students viewing the videos through the link titled Acceptable Technology Use. This webpage was also made readily available to student's parents in my classroom to ensure they knew the importance of digital etiquette and safe technology use. Each student using school technology was required to sign a user compliance form.
